We weren't looking for just another headboard.

We were looking for something that felt like us.

After searching and finding nothing that carried the warmth, character and soul I envisioned, the answer became clear:

Make it.

I began gathering reclaimed wood—different species, different grains, different histories. I didn't want to stain the woods into uniformity. Their natural colors were already beautiful. Deep browns. Reds. Golds. Honey tones. Dark grain. Light grain. Knots, markings and imperfections from lives already lived.

I began laying the pieces together one by one, allowing the variation in the wood to become the design.

At the center, I created a warm upholstered leather headboard, giving the reclaimed wood a quiet place to gather around.

What started on the floor of our home, surrounded by wood strips, glue and possibility, eventually became the backdrop to the place where we begin and end each day.

Nothing mass-produced.

Nothing trying to look old.

Just wood.

Leather.

Hands.

And a vision brought into form.

Today it remains in our home—a reminder that sometimes when you can't find what you're looking for, perhaps you're supposed to create it.
