For years, I carried a vision. Not just any green velvet couch.
My green velvet couch.
I searched antique stores, estate sales, and furniture shops. Some were new and mass-produced. Others were vintage reproductions with tufted buttons that simply weren't Coolee.
None of them felt right. So I waited.
One thing I've learned is this:
When you stop chasing the right piece, it has a way of finding you.
Whenever I walk into an estate sale, I first seek out the owner or organizer. A quick handshake. A smile. A conversation.
Positive energy matters. The Coolee Way.
I believe every space has a frequency, and I choose to enter each one with gratitude and respect. It creates a better experience for everyone.
Then I head to my favorite place...
The garage.
Most people walk right past it.
I walk toward it.
Garages are where unfinished dreams often wait quietly. Furniture that someone intended to repair. Projects that life simply interrupted. Beautiful craftsmanship hidden beneath years of dust.
On this day, something caught my eye.
Just one leg.
A single Mid-Century Modern tapered leg peeking out beneath a pile of forgotten furniture.
Once you've spent enough years around authentic Mid-Century design, you recognize those legs instantly.
I knew there was something special underneath.
As I carefully moved old boxes and discarded items aside, an old Mid-Century couch slowly revealed itself.
Its upholstery was torn.
The fabric was worn.
Time had taken its toll.
But underneath...
The frame was beautiful.
And in that moment...
I wasn't looking at an old couch.
I was looking at the green velvet couch I had imagined for years.
The vision had finally found its home.
Learning Something New
There was only one problem.
I'd never sewn velvet before.
Anyone who has worked with velvet knows it has a mind of its own. It stretches. It shifts. It reminds you very quickly that it demands patience.
So I learned.
I carefully removed the original upholstery, using every piece as a pattern for the new fabric.
Piece by piece.
Seam by seam.
Mistake by mistake.
Until eventually...
The couch I had imagined for years became real.
Not because I found it.
Because I was willing to create it.
A New Chapter
Today, this couch has become one of the signature pieces in our home.
Every time I walk past it, I'm reminded that vision often arrives long before opportunity.
Sometimes you simply have to wait...
Until they meet.
